Thanks for another great year - while we weren't terribly prolific with new releases in 2009, we're extrememly proud of our one release. The Lovely Sparrows' Bury the Cynics was honored on year end "best of" lists by Fensepost (#2 album of '08), The Bomb Shelter (#11), the Austinist (#5), Side One: Track One v1 (#7) and Side One: Track One v2 (#1!!!). Look for more good stuff in 2009.

The swirling blog love hopefully already brought your attention to the new Lovely Sparrows song, "Department of Forseeable Outcomes". Unfortunantely, airline hijinks kept the Lovely Sparrows from their April 10th Seattle show, but be on the lookout for extended touring behind the upcoming Bury the Cynics.
Speaking of live music magic, swing by the tours page to see additional midwestern tour dates from Nire.

"Department of Forseeable Outcomes," from the Lovely Sparrows' upcoming debut LP entitled Bury the Cynics is available NOW for download in handy MP3 format at the band's fancy, freshened-up website (great job Ellie!). Stay tuned to your friendly neighborhood Abandoned Love Records interweb for more news, cover art and other goodies soon. And if you're in the Seattle area, Shawn from the Sparrows will be playing a super special local show on April 10th, or at least that's what the tours page told me. That rad tours page also told me about Nire's Midwestern mini-tour (including WIUX Culture Fest!) and Parker Street Cinema's continual California campaign.

So the Lovely Sparrows are all set for SXSW - Friday night, March 14th at 8pm at Red Eyed Fly. If you'll be in Austin for the festival and want to catch up with your friends at Abandoned Love - drop us a line at info (AT) abandonedloverecords (DOT) com. We'll grab a taco at Torchy's or something.
Also, some great interviews are up on the press page. Ink 19 caught up with Josh from Nire for a great interview. Also, UK music blog Partly Porpoise caught up with our old friends Grumpy Bear - here's pt. 1 and pt. 2.

First of all, we proudly annouce the Lovely Sparrows' inclusion in this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival in thier hometown of Austin, TX. The Sparrows killed last year at thier showcase and should be even deadlier this year in preparation for their tremendous (we know, we've heard rough mixes) debut full length due later in 2008.
Second of all, thanks to those folks who included ALR music in their year-end best-of lists. Italian music blog Happy Days are Here Again slotted Nire's Vespers as the #5 album of 2007. The Architectural Dance Society called out Virgin of the Birds' "You Haven't Talked to Tara" in their extensive year's megamix as did music blog Your New Favorite Song. And extra thanks the commenter (we swear it wasn't us) on uber-popular blog Brooklyn Vegan who proclaimed Virgin of the Birds' Mixed Choir as the #2 album of 2007 in defiance of the more Pitchfork-approved, same-y best-of lists. Viva la marginalia!!!
